This morning we docked in the Moroccan town of Agadir, the last stop before Lisbon on Friday. Again we find our selves in a working port so ships are loading and unloading around us and the shore, immediately nearby is given over to stacked containers.
As it turns out we are not going to get to see very much of Agadir as our bus tour today will not do a city tour of Agadir but rather take us about 1.5 hours to the much older town of Taroudant which folk law suggested was an outpost named Vala during Roman times. In Taroudant we spent a couple of hours walking through the walled inner city (called the medina) visiting markets and generally observing the life of a modern Islamic community in an ancient setting.
The ancient wall of Tarooudant is under going major repair after the damage from the Septemeber 2023 earthquake.
Some of the pictures above show the unusual sight of goats standing in a tree. While this particular group of goats are doing this as a photo opportunity for tourists this skill is more often part of the process of making Argan Oil. You see the tree the goats are standing in is an Argan tree. The goals eat the fruit including the internal seed and eventually poop out the seed without the enclosing fruit. The seed is then crushed to form Argan Oil which is used in cooking and cosmetics.
