Well, what a surprise. This morning just after we woke up there was a sort-of "honking noise" outside the truck which turned out to be a pair of Brolgas which are very large long necked birds a bit like a crane only much much larger (almost Emu size).
Once we managed to prise ourselves away from the birds we headed for the town of Winton which is famous as the birth place of QANTAS and the Matilda Center which of course tells the story of the song Waltzing Matilda but in addition adds on as much local history as possible.
The Matilda Center was interesting because while we both know about Waltzing Matilda and Bango Paterson in general terms we got a lot more detail.
After Winton we pushed on to Longreach with the thought of spending a couple of nights of luxury in a camping ground cabin. It did not turn out that way as the cabin we got at the local Tourist Park was totally devoid of any insulation. So during the day the inside was hotter than the outside (with the AC going full-bore) and at night the reverse. Colder inside. When will Australian builders realize that insulation is a money saver.
