Our proposed route to Europe

As you can see from this map, we have three alternative routes. Our preference is South of the Caspian Sea through Iran but as yet we have not attempted the visa process for Iran and hence we need options in the event that we cannot get a visa.

Our options are both North of the Caspian.

Our first alternative take us to the port of Sochi on the Russian Black Sea coast and then by ferry to the coast of Turkey.

The final options is all by land, missing Turkey (at least on this leg) and through the Ukraine, Hungary and Slovakia.
